As I got deeper into the sport, I noticed that a lot of people on my team, including me, just weren't fueling our best. I knew I had to fix how I felt before I could ever help anyone else, so I started with my own nutrition. Once I fixed that and felt the difference, I wanted to share what I learned. That's how Healthylete was created.
I built it around everything that's important for teen athletes. Nutrition and recipes to help you fuel enough and eat enough. Training tips, including proper warm-ups and cool-downs, because I watched too many teammates skip their cool-down. Rest days, which some people don't take seriously but absolutely should. And sleep, which I used to brush off even though my coaches swore by it. Then I went into my first race running on barely any sleep, and I felt exactly how much it hurt my performance. Lesson learned: your coaches and your parents are right about sleep.
I made Healthylete because when I was trying to figure out how to fuel, everything out there was written for adults. I genuinely thought I could just eat whatever, whenever, or that I should bulk, cut, or diet like adults do online. What I actually needed was balance. Fuel is how you grow, training is how you build, and recovery is how it all comes together. That's the whole idea behind this site.
