Real and honest reviews of healthy prepackaged snacks, rated on taste, fuel, and how well they survive a backpack. I actually eat these, so you get the real verdict before you spend your money.
That's It Fruit Bars
Two ingredients, and it's just fruit. Quick carbs that are easy on the stomach. Perfect fuel before a run. The apple and blueberry flavor tastes the best in my opinion.
Best for: quick fuel between class and practice.
Made Good Oat Bars
Great carbs and they taste amazing. Soft, not crumbly, and taste great. A school staple for me. My favorite flavor is the cinnamon bun.
Best for: everyday carb snack at school.
Applesauce Pouches
My favorite on-the-go snack. No spoon needed, fast carbs, and easy right before a workout.
Best for: the 30 to 60 minute pre-practice top-off.
Skinny Pop Popcorn
Light, crunchy, and salty. It's easy to snack on without feeling heavy. Not filling enough to be real fuel on its own, due to only 16 grams of carbs for 3 entire cups, so pair it with fruit or a protein snack. The original is the best flavor in my opinion. Only reason it loses a star is because it's popped in high oleic sunflower oil.
Best for: after-school munchies on lighter days.
LesserEvil Popcorn
It's popped in coconut oil with simple ingredients. The Himalayan Pink Salt flavor is my number one flavor. However, the Himalayan Gold (butter) flavor is almost just as good. It's crunchy, light, and easy to share. Like all popcorn, it's a light snack, not real fuel, so don't make it your pre-practice food.
Best for: movie-night snacking and school days when wanting something crunchy.
Drizzilicious
They're mini rice cake bites with a drizzled deliciousness that actually satisfy a sweet craving without going overboard. They have a variety of flavors including Birthday Cake, S'mores, Lemon Cake, and French Toast. Birthday Cake is hands down the best flavor. Light and crunchy, so treat it like something sweet to satisfy your craving.
Best for: a sweet fix after lunch or homework.
Trader Joe's Veggie Sticks - Potato Snacks
Crunchy like chips but lighter. They look like veggie straws, but taste even better in my opinion. Easy to munch while studying. They're still mostly potato, so don't count them as a serving of veggies. Pair with a protein snack to make it count.
Best for: a chip swap for after-school snacking.
Siete Kettle Cooked Sour Cream & Onion Potato Chips
They are kettle-crunchy with simple ingredients cooked in avocado oil. The sour cream and onion flavor is spot on. The best "better chip" I've found. Great with a sandwich or snack.
Best for: lunch-box chips or snack munchies without the junk.
Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier
What I personally pour into a bottle of water for long, hot practices and race days. Electrolytes mean it actually hydrates when plain water isn't cutting it. I love the peach flavor.
Best for: hot practices, tournaments, and race mornings.
Simple Mills Pop Mmms β Cheddar
Popped snack crackers with simple, gluten-free ingredients and real cheddar flavor. They taste like a healthier version of goldfish.
Best for: a cheesy, crunchy school snack.
Simple Mills Pop Mmms β Cinnamon Burst
The sweet version of Pop Mmms, with a cinnamon sugar taste that feels like a treat. Light, crunchy, and easy to keep eating.
Best for: a sweet crunch after lunch or homework.
Pumpkin Seeds
Crunchy, salty, and actually filling thanks to real protein and healthy fats. They come in great flavors like Himalayan Salt and Salt & Vinegar. Easy to keep a bag in your backpack.
Best for: a protein-packed crunchy snack between classes.
Legendary Foods Protein Pastries
They taste like a poptart but with way more protein and less sugar. Strawberry is the best flavor. They also make Legendary Cinnamon Rolls, which are just as good when you want something sweet with protein. My tip is to take the pastry out of the package and microwave it for 10 seconds before eating it. This levels it up.
Best for: a sweet protein hit after a workout or at school.
Archer Beef Sticks
Real protein in a stick that doesn't need a fridge. Simple ingredients and solid flavors. An easy way to add protein to any snack.
Best for: pairing with a carb snack for real fuel.
Chomps Beef Sticks
Grass-fed beef with clean, simple ingredients and around 10 grams of protein per stick. Great taste and easy to throw in any bag.
Best for: protein on the go between school and practice.
LesserEvil Space Balls
Crunchy little puffed balls from the same brand as my favorite popcorn, made with simple ingredients and coconut oil. Light, fun to eat, and easy to share.
Best for: a light, crunchy snack on school days.
LesserEvil Moon Onions
Onion-flavored puffed rings that taste like a cleaner take on funyuns, made with simple ingredients. It's crunchy, flavorful, and easy to keep eating.
Best for: a crunchy, savory snack fix.
LesserEvil Crunchy Cheezmos
Cheesy crunchy puffs that taste like a cleaner version of cheetos, made with simple ingredients. Crunchy, cheesy, and hard to put down.
Best for: a cheesy crunch craving on school days.
Trader Joe's Fig & Olive Crisps
Thin, crunchy crisps with real figs baked in, so they're a little sweet and a little savory at the same time. They have lots of different seeds in them and taste amazing. Great on their own or paired with cheese for extra protein.
Best for: pairing with cheese for a snack that feels fancy.
Crunchmaster Tzatziki Chickpea Crisps
They're crunchy baked crisps made with chickpea and rice flour, and seasoned with a tangy tzatziki flavor. Gluten-free, baked in olive oil, and great on their own or with a dip.
Best for: a crunchy snack with a little protein from the chickpeas.
Yumi Organic Bars
Soft organic bars made with real fruit and simple ingredients. Easy carbs that go down light, so they work as a quick snack between classes or before activity.
Best for: a light, fruity snack on busy days.
Made Good Chewy Granola Bars Chocolate Chip
The classic soft granola bars by the Made Good brand. Easy carbs, gluten-free, and made with hidden veggie nutrients. Chocolate chip is the best flavor, and they hold up in a backpack without crumbling everywhere.
Best for: a quick carb snack between classes or before practice.
Yasso Greek Yogurt Bars
Frozen Greek yogurt bars that taste like ice cream but come with some protein. A sweet treat that actually helps you recover after an evening workout. They have to be frozen, so this is a home snack, and not backpack safe.
Best for: dessert after dinner or a post-workout sweet craving.
Edy's Ice Cream
Real ice cream, but with a cleaner ingredient list than most of the big brands. It tastes like the real deal because it is. Dessert is part of balance, so when I want actual ice cream this is the tub I reach for.
Best for: a real dessert night without the mystery ingredients.
