This is the easiest recipe on the whole site, and it might be my favorite. One ingredient. That's it. Frozen honeydew spun in the Ninja Creami turns into a sorbet that tastes like it came from a shop, with no added sugar, no cream, and no ingredient list you can't pronounce. It's cold, hydrating, and full of easy carbs, which makes it perfect after a hot practice.

Ingredients

  • About 1/2 honeydew melon (enough to fill one Creami pint)
  • A drizzle of honey or maple syrup (optional, only if your melon isn't sweet)
  • Water (optional, only for re-spinning)

Pick the ripest honeydew you can find. Since this is a one-ingredient recipe, the melon is the recipe. A bland melon makes bland sorbet, and no amount of spinning fixes that.

Equipment

  • Ninja Creami machine
  • Ninja Creami pint container with lid
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Spoon
  • Blender (optional)
  • Ice cream scoop (optional, for serving)

How to make it

  1. Cut the honeydew. Slice it in half, scoop out the seeds with a spoon, then cut off the rind (outside peel of honeydew), and chop it into rough chunks. You don't need them to be perfect.
  2. Fill the pint. Add the chunks to the Creami pint container up to the max fill line, not past it. If you want a smoother texture from the very first spin, blend the melon first and pour it in instead. Another option is to take a fork or spoon and smash the honeydew, which should be easy to do if it's a ripe honeydew. All three methods work.
  3. Level the top. Press the fruit down with a spoon so the surface is flat. A flat top is what gives you an even spin that's not icy.
  4. Freeze for 24 hours. Put the lid on, and place it in a flat and level place in the freezer. This part matters. Under-frozen pints spin into soupy liquid, so give it the full 24 hours.
  5. Spin it. Take the pint out, put it in the outer bowl, lock it into the machine, and hit Sorbet. Let it run all the way through.
  6. Re-spin if it's crumbly. Totally normal on the first spin. Add a small splash of water or one or two chunks of honeydew into the hole in the middle and click Re-spin. Keep adding more water or honeydew until you get the texture you want.
  7. Scoop and eat. Best right out of the machine while it's soft. Scoop it into a bowl and eat right away.

Make it your own

  • Not sweet enough? Drizzle a little honey over the melon before you freeze them, not after. It has to freeze in.
  • Want protein? Blend in a scoop of vanilla protein powder or a few spoonfuls of Greek yogurt before freezing. It becomes a recovery snack instead of just a dessert.
  • Want it more like ice cream? Swap a splash of milk in during the re-spin instead of water or honeydew.

Why it works for athletes

Honeydew is mostly water and simple carbs. It also contains potassium, which is one of the electrolytes you sweat out. That combination makes this a genuinely useful snack after a hot practice. It rehydrates you, puts easy carbs back in, and it goes down when you're too hot to want a real meal. Pair it with a protein source, like a beef stick or Greek yogurt, and you've got a legitimate recovery snack that tastes like dessert.

The bottom line

Cube it, freeze it 24 hours, spin it on Sorbet, re-spin with a splash of liquid if it's crumbly. One ingredient, zero added sugar, and it tastes like a treat. Start here if it's your first Creami recipe, because it's almost impossible to mess up.
